REAL INDIA – A PHOTO TOUR

A 14-Day Street Photography Expedition Through North India

22 November – 5 December 2026

Delhi • Jaipur • Pushkar • Ajmer • Abhaneri • Bharatpur • Agra • Kannauj • Prayagraj • Varanasi • Lucknow • Delhi

Led by Avs Kumar | World Photography Group

This is not a sightseeing tour where you occasionally take photographs.

This is a photography journey.

For fourteen days we travel across North India with one purpose: to find, experience and photograph the extraordinary diversity of real India.

From the colour and chaos of Rajasthan to camel traders at Pushkar, migratory birds at Bharatpur, sunrise at the Taj Mahal, the perfume city of Kannauj, the streets and food of Prayagraj, the ancient ghats of Varanasi and finally the intense street life of Delhi.

We travel slowly enough to photograph.

We stop when we see something worth photographing.

We get up before sunrise when the light demands it.

And sometimes we simply walk into a market, village, railway station or street because something interesting is happening there.

THIS IS REAL INDIA

India is almost impossible to photograph properly from a conventional tour bus.

The best photographs are often not at the famous monuments.

They happen on the road.

  • A chai stall.
  • A village market.
  • An old man sitting outside his shop.
  • Camel traders preparing for the morning.
  • A pilgrim disappearing into the mist beside the Ganges.
  • A roadside dhaba.
  • A crowded railway platform.
  • Birds rising through the early morning haze.

This tour has been designed around those moments.

We have deliberately combined major photographic destinations with smaller cities, towns and stops that most international tours simply drive past.

WHAT WILL YOU PHOTOGRAPH?

This journey gives you access to an unusually broad range of photographic genres:

  • Street Photography
  • Travel & Documentary Photography
  • Environmental Portraiture
  • Architecture
  • Landscape & Desert Photography
  • Bird & Wildlife Photography
  • Night & Available-Light Photography
  • Flash Photography
  • Markets & Local Culture
  • Festivals & Events
  • Food & Everyday Life

The objective is not simply to return with individual good photographs.

The objective is to return with enough strong, connected work to create a serious India portfolio, photographic essay or even your own photo book.

PHOTOGRAPHIC GUIDANCE

The tour is led by photographer and educator Avs Kumar.

Avs has spent years teaching photographers in Dubai and Sydney through IIFP and now leads photography experiences through World Photography Group – WPG. A Traveller himself, we spends at least 4-5 months travelling around the world, and rest of the time in Sydney running his well known photography workshops. An India tour is special with him, as he was born their, speaks the language and connects with real people at their level.

Guidance is practical and happens while we photograph.

We will discuss:

  • Composition
  • Finding photographs rather than waiting for them
  • Approaching people
  • Environmental portraiture
  • Working quickly in changing situations
  • Available light
  • Flash on location
  • Lens selection
  • Exposure decisions
  • Street photography
  • Visual storytelling
  • Editing your work into a coherent body of images

You remain the photographer.

The purpose of the mentorship is not to tell everyone to stand in exactly the same place and make the same photograph.

It is to help you see better and create your own work.

SMALL GROUP. PHOTOGRAPHY FIRST.

We deliberately keep this experience small.

A smaller group means:

  • More flexibility
  • More access
  • Less waiting
  • Easier transportation
  • Better interaction with local people
  • More individual guidance
  • And most importantly — the ability to change plans when photography demands it.

If extraordinary light appears somewhere unexpected, we want to be able to stop.

TRANSPORT

For the main road journey we travel together in a private Toyota Innova / Innova Crysta or equivalent, with driver.

The vehicle remains with the group throughout the principal overland portion of the tour.

Local transportation such as boats, e-rickshaws or other suitable transport may be used where this gives us better photographic access.

ACCOMMODATION

Accommodation is selected for a balance of:

  • Character
  • Practical access to our photography locations
  • Comfort
  • Cleanliness

This is not intended to be a luxury hotel tour, nor is it backpacking.

Our priority is comfortable accommodation that allows us to rest properly and get back out to photograph.

WHO SHOULD JOIN?

This tour is designed for photographers who would rather make photographs than tick attractions off a list.

You do not need to be a professional.

You should, however, be enthusiastic about photography and comfortable with:

  • Early starts
  • Walking
  • Changing plans
  • Long photographic days
  • Occasional long drives
  • Crowded environments
  • Street photography
  • And the unpredictability that makes India so extraordinary.

DSLR, mirrorless and serious compact-camera photographers are welcome.

WHAT MAKES THIS DIFFERENT?

There are easier ways to visit India.

There are cheaper ways to visit India.

And there are certainly more luxurious ways to visit India.

But this journey has been designed specifically around photographic opportunity.

We are not trying to see everything.

We are trying to Photograph Deeply.
